Description:
It may be called a writer’s festival, but this event is for anyone who loves words – and a good time. The four-day event begins with a participatory Story Slam on Thursday night, with selected members of the public sharing a short piece of writing on a shared topic. On Friday, day-long workshops delve into topics as diverse as building social media to personal narratives. The intimate setting allows people to explore new arenas in their writings, network and share. And, after a grueling, hard, rewarding day, the fun really begins. Receptions on Friday and Saturday nights feature local fare, while spirits readily flow and preps folks for attendance at the keynote speakers: Friday night author Jennifer Clement will be interviewed by radio personality Joe Donahue; Saturday features storyteller extraordinaire Stephen Tobolowsky.
All Saturday and Sunday there are individual panels on topics ranging from journalism to yoga, writing motivation to memoir. Nationally and inter-nationally recognized writers descend upon Woodstock and it’s as if the small town’s charm just takes over. Attendees and speakers mingle after the panels and executive director Martha Frankel makes sure the receptions are as much fun as the panels. As author Elissa Schappell said “It’s like being a guest at one of the colorful, vibrant, and entertaining literary parties imaginable.”
People can attend just one session, or opt into all the events. Insider TIP: Very often keynote panels sell out – get your tickets in advance, or be prepared to be disappointed!
All panels will be held at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts, 36 Tinker Street, Woodstock. Friday and Saturdays receptions will be at Mountain View Studio, 20 Mountain View Ave.
The festival’s motto says it all: “Come Along For the Read.”
