The Woods Hole Film Festival happens every August in Woods Hole, MA, a charming Cape Cod village near Martha’s Vineyard. The Woods Hole Film Festival runs for 8 days with over 100 films, panels and talks. The Woods Hole Film Festival has been called “one of the 25 coolest film festivals in the world” by MovieMaker Magazine.
Judy Laster runs this quirky seaside festival started over 22 years ago to screen a film she had made. Judy is know for her fun-loving sensibility, and her penchant for finding features about or shot on Cape Cod, and documentaries of interest to the local science, fishing and boating communities. Judy travels to the Sundance Film Festival and others to ferret out great films that can screen in summertime here on Cape Cod, delighting summer travelers and locals with her choices.
The Woods Hole Film Festival also offers a Filmmaker in Residence series, where a retrospective of a talented filmmakers movies are screened, and panels are offered to discuss the themes and impact of this filmmakers work. Recent filmmakers include Heidi Ewing (“Detropia”) and Lauren Greenfield (“Queen of Versaille”).
In winter, the Woods Hole Film Festival screens movies at the Captain Kidd restaurant as part of a series called “Dinner and a Movie.”
