The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Dance of the Reed Flutes, and the Waltz of the Snowflakes—are these songs sounding familiar to you? They are part of the classic Christmas ballet, the epitome of the holiday spirit, filled to the brim with adventure, imagination, creative characters, talented performers, and the incredible music of Tchaikovsky. We are, of course, talking about The Nutcracker Ballet, which will be performed in Waynesboro, Virginia on December 13, 14, and 15, 2013. You have the opportunity to experience the world of this ballet come to life—the antics of Clara’s little brother Fritz, battles between gingerbread soldiers and the Mouse King, the transformation of the Nutcracker into the Prince, and the characters’ travels across the Land of Sweets.
The Nutcracker is presented by the Old Dominion Performing Arts Studio (ODPAS), a nonprofit organization founded in 2008, which provides not only dance classes, but also martial arts, fitness instruction, and dramatic arts as well. Their emphasis is on quality and affordability, and it comes as no surprise that they have received recognition from The Richmond Ballet and the Virginia School of the Arts.
Join ODPAS at Kate Collins Middle School for a fantastic production of The Nutcracker that will appeal to adults and children alike. If you can’t make it to the 7 P.M. shows on Friday and Saturday, there will be a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 P.M.

With its portrayal of childhood imagination, there is a sense of nostalgia that coincides with the powerful music.
