Description:

The Monuments by Moonlight tour offered by Old Town Trolley Tours is one that should not be missed.  This 2 ½ hour tour begins at 7:30 PM daily departing from Union Station, (except 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).  The highly trained and knowledgeable tour guides are quick to grab your attention.  The tour travels along the Capitol and there the ghost stories begin.   Riders on the trolley are often told about the Curse of the Hope Diamond housed at the Smithsonian Institute and the woman who haunts the Supreme Court.

The first stop is at the new Martin Luther King Jr, Memorial.  Tourists have ample time to take in the monument and its historical presence.  The next stop is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial along the Tidal Basin.  This monument is especially calming at night with the waterfalls lit up and the soothing sound of falling water.  The third stop is the longest in the tour.  The trolley stops at the Lincoln Memorial and from there you can walk over to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.  There is often a somber silence among all the tourists at these memorials.  Seeing them at night is astounding.  The Korean War Memorial comes to life at night.  Within the stone walls are etchings of soldier’s faces.  Also, the larger than life soldiers in the rice paddies takes one back.  It is an incredible feeling to see Abraham Lincoln’s words lit up at night.  The tour’s last stop of the evening is the Iwo Jima Memorial.  It is the perfect ending to the tour.

It doesn’t matter if you are a tourist or resident, there is always something to do in Washington, DC.  Walking along the National Mall, one can visit so many of the National Monuments. However, one of the best ways to see and explore the monuments is at night.

This tour is perfect for all ages.  You have the opportunity to see DC at night and get a close up look at many of most visited monuments.  The tour take place rain or shine.  We hope you will stay with us at American Guest House, a Washington DC Bed and Breakfast when visiting our beautiful city.

From the Author: I greatly enjoyed this tour and would take it again. The monuments all lit up were breath taking and I greatly enjoyed listening to the tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and very funny.
