Description:
Step back in time with Mineral Springs, a historic Alton landmark, as the building celebrates its 100th anniversary from 12 – 4 pm August 16, 2014!
A ribbon cutting ceremony will kick off the open house at noon. Travel through time back to the 1920s with Mineral Springs staff and shopkeepers. Enjoy their roaring 20s attire and the ragtime and jazz music setting the mood.
Embark on tours of the lobby and ballroom and see Mineral Springs artifacts such as dishes and menus once used in the hotel and packaging from the old Luer Brothers Meat Packing products on display.
Lecturer and historian Wayne Hensley will walk through the history of the building, originally opened in 1914 as an extravagant 90-room hotel and spa and later converted into a mall in 1978.
Delight in free refreshments, door prizes, and special discounts on certain items in the shops.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the event, please call (618) 465-6256.
