Description:
Lower Chester Park in Duluth Minnesota is located at the site of a Duluth orphanage originally built in 1903. The neighborhood was a “melting pot” of children and orphans as the Eastern edge of the city of Duluth was developing and they needed a place to play! Currently, the non-profit organization known as the Neighbors of Lower Chester Park leases the area from the City of Duluth and provides community youth recreational activities throughout the year.
Summer activities include skateboarding, rollerblading, dances, parades and games. Winter fun includes ice skating, hockey, and bon fires.
This year they are celebrating 100 years of organized recreational activities for children with a two-day celebration on August 29th and 30th, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at Lower Chester Park. The celebration includes a picnic, alumni hockey games and a concert featuring the band Fractals who will be performing from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday August 29th.
Check out their Facebook page and their website for all the news this neighborhood organization offers, the fun events planned for the children and adults of all ages and donations are accepted there as well.
