“The Old Spokes” opening reception, on April 18, will be in conjunction with the 3rd Friday Art walk in Manitou Springs. More than 40 artists that have been involved with the Common Wheel Artists Co-op over the years have been asked to share one or two of their favorite or newest pieces of art. Featured artists in the show will be founding member Rod Hubble, as well as, Richard Elliot, Lynn Loftus and Coreen Abbott, other members that have been part of the co-op for over 20 years will also have art in the show.
“The Old Spokes”, the artists in the show will share memories of early artistic experiences with the group and the forming of the Common Wheel Co-op. Scrapbooks stuffed will newspaper clippings, photos of past events and stories will be on hand bringing the history of the how the co-op has grown and developed over the past 40 years. The Common Wheel Artists Co-op, founded in 1974, has been instrumental in the development of Manitou Springs as an art community. The Labor Day Arts and Craft Festival, Pots by the Pound, and the 3rd Friday Art Walk are events that have become tradition in Manitou Springs due to the efforts of the co-op.
Curating the show are longtime members Julia Wright and Roger Tolzman.
