Description:
For the past three years Lewiston has commemorated the bravery of a small band of Tuscarora Indians with a reenactment of the Burning of Lewiston.
We have gathered along Center Street from 4th to 5th streets and watched as settlers have run screaming through the flames followed by a line of British soldiers. We have seen Tuscarora Braves face the British and help the settlers to safety.
This year Youngstown joined in the celebration and, as a continuation of the historical event begun in Youngstown with the taking of Fort Niagara in the wee hours of the morning, we will gather on December 19, 2013 for the 6:30 PM reenactment of “Flames through Lewiston” and the unveiling of the Tuscarora Heroes Monument at the intersection Center and Portage Streets.
Get there a bit early to watch the villagers flee from the British up Center Street from 8th to Portage Road where the Tuscarora come to their aid. The historical association will be awarding prizes for the best pictures taken at this event so be sure to bring your camera!
