As you drive up to the Mill Pond Steakhouse (aka Boykin Millpond), you might think you are in the wrong place! Three historic buildings porticoed together! But, when you walk inside, you find it is definitely the right place. The very rustic decor hosts black leather chairs and crisp white linens. The restaurant is only 10 minutes from Camden, South Carolina.
If you are fortunate enough to come before sunset, the outside viewing area is a great place for a pre-dinner libation. Hopefully you will be lucky and see an alligator or two, or possibly a fox crossing the bridge. Even if you miss the alligator sighting, the water fowl arrival at dusk is amazingly perfect.
Be sure to ask for a window seat when you book your reservations as this is fine dining at its best. The prime-aged beef is outstanding and what they are known for all through the Southeast. They always have a fresh fish selection, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Their succotash side dish is something not to be missed.
Remember to ask the flavor of fresh cobbler for that night, as it changes with the season. You will be asked to order this when you order your entree, as it is made from scratch especially for you. Some may think they won’t have room for dessert. But it is so good that when they ask if you are having their signature cobbler, just say YES!
The Boykin Millpond is an experience…it is fine dining.
