Description:
The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theater is the center of a thriving performing arts community in Chestertown on upper Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It started out in the early 20th century as the “New Lyceum” showing silent movies. It remained a movie theater, changing its name to the “Prince Theatre” along the way until it closed its doors in 1991.
A major renovation was needed to preserve the historic structure and to maintain it’s original wonderful “bones.” Thanks to the effort of local movie buffs and art lovers it came back to life as a gorgeous small town venue beloved by all. Young and old alike enjoy this family-friendly theater. The Garfield hosts events ranging from theater productions to concerts to arts-centered town meetings. It has become a meeting place for artists from the local community as well as visiting performers. An eclectic mix of shows is offered all year and changes weekly at the Garfield. It can also be rented for private parties, weddings and celebrations.
From the Author: The beautifully restored small town theater, Garfield, is the pride of Chestertown. Many productions include the talents of local actors, singers and musicians from the community.
