Description:

Sandy Neck Beach Park is a beautiful 8-mile barrier beach fronting Cape Cod Bay in the little hamlet of West Barnstable, Massachusetts on the historic north side of Cape Cod just off scenic route 6A, the Old Kings Highway.

With 4,700 acres of dunes and miles of nature trails that connect the main beach area (known as Bodfish Public Beach) to the Great Salt Marsh and Barnstable Harbor, this is a very popular beach with both visitors and locals, as well as hikers and horseback riders.

With a permit, Sandy Neck is available to approved ORVs and most summer days and all holiday weekends you will find the east end of the beach jumping with jeeps, motor homes, and all manner of four wheel drive vehicles.

There is ample parking, a brand new bath house, plus a snack bar featuring menu items from Porky’s Barbeque.

At the tip of Sandy Neck you will find a bevy of antique dune shacks and cottages. Built at the turn of the century, they were originally used as hunting cottages and are privately owned. Abutting the cottage colony is Sandy Neck Lighthouse, which was decommissioned in 1931, but now sports a replica of the original lantern. This entire area has been designated a Cultural Historical District and access is restricted to owners.

Parking is $15 (weekdays) and $20 (weekends and holidays).

From the Author: Rich and I love to walk Sandy Neck, especially in the late afternoon. Although it can be stony in parts, for the most part it is an easy beach to walk and great for finding sea glass, heart rocks, and driftwood. Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach from September 15th to May 15th.
