Description:
Kauffman’s Fruit Market is along Rt. 340 between the villages of Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. Their orchards produce over 135 varieties of orchard fruits on 92 acres of prime cropland here in Lancaster County. Fifty of those acres are covered with apple trees, 35 acres of peaches and the rest are planted with pears, plums and cherries.
This is a family owned and operated business that has been in operation since the early 1900’s when the first fruit trees were planted. It is a market where you will be overwhelmed with the variety and colors of the fruits, veggies and locally produced products. They sell the quality fruits from their orchards and locally homemade stuff with fresh from the farm flavor.
People come from far and wide to purchase their fruits for canning. In addition, they sell deli meats, cheeses, fresh meats and locally canned vegetables. There is also a bulk food section with incredible selections of nuts and seeds, dried foods, beans and rices, jams and jellies, oats and cereals, soup mixes, spices, baking supplies, chocolate bits, candies and snacks. What did I miss??
Then there are the cookbooks with 90+ titles including Mennonite, Amish, local and specialty cookbooks to choose from.
But perhaps it is the apples that they are best known for – their apple cider is the best around! And you must try the apple butter, the dried apple snitz or the apple dumplings too.
Store hours are Mon. – Thurs. 7AM – 5:30PM; Friday 7AM- 8:30PM; Saturday 7AM-5PM
