Description:
Each year, the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea lights the magnificent Monterey Pine tree at the intersection of Junipero Street & Ocean Avenue. This intersection is the gateway to Carmel-by-the-Sea commercial district where all the trees lining Ocean Avenue are lit year round with delicate white LED twinke lights. The Monterey Pine, reaching some 50 feet, is adorned in traditional Christmas red lights.
The Mayor, Jason Burnett and members of the city council flip on the lights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013. Get to Defendorf Park by 3:30 p.m. to start enjoying the festivities. Defendorf Park, also located at the intersection, will have a gingerbread house, Santa, his elves, and his reindeer on display. Following the tree lighting, make your way to the Sunset Center, located on Mission and 8th Avenue for a holiday open house with refreshments and singing. Stay on for the Sumin Ballet performance taking place at the Sunset Center this same evening. Join Carmel-by-the-Sea to Celebrate the Season that is upon us.
