Description:
If you’re a history buff this is a great restaurant for you. The building dates to 1740 (one of the oldest in Lancaster County!). Besides “just” being old, the Revere Tavern was once owned by a US President, James Buchanan! And Stephen Foster, Buchanan’s sister-in-law’s brother, wrote some of his best known songs while staying at the Revere Tavern, “Oh, Susanna!” and “My Olde Kentucky Home”.
The Revere Tavern is open for dinner 7 days a week. Monday – Friday 5 – 10 pm, Saturday 4:30 – 10 pm and Sunday 4 – 9 pm.
The menu is pretty traditional and has a wide variety of seafood, chicken, veal, pork , steak, and even vegetarian options. I highly recommend the homemade Snapper Turtle Soup to start with, it’s a Lancaster County favorite! I also recommend saving room for dessert… my favorites are the Mocha Mud Pie and the Dark Side of the Moon (think “death by chocolate!). The prices are reasonable ($18 – $30ish range), especially considering the portions, and that every entree comes with a salad. I also like that they offer a good selection of wines as well as domestic, imported and CRAFT beers.
The building itself is the best thing about eating at the Revere Tavern. I love the set-up with several small dining rooms (with fireplaces!), all housing colonial furniture and decor. The atmosphere just oozes history!
And finally, the service here is very good. Everyone from the hostess to the servers and even the bus staff will go out of their way to ensure you have an enjoyable experience in this wonderful historic building.
