Description:

Colonists who had settled into what is now the town of Old Fort, NC, lived for a time in what was the westernmost outpost of the colonial frontier, during the time of the American Revolution. The North Carolina militia built a fort in the area for protection, naming it for a member of the Davidson family who owned the land. The exact location of the original fort is still being researched, but a replica of the fort was constructed by local volunteers and has been open since 2010.

Christmas at the original Davidson’s Fort provided the opportunity for many festivities during a time that was fairly rough for those living in the early American frontier. Settlers made Christmas a fun holiday, with good food and camaraderie. Davidson’s Fort Historic Park will celebrate the spirit of the original fort’s inhabitants with an open house on December 6, 2014. This will be the second year for the Colonial Christmas celebration. The public is welcome to join re-enactors for festivities and food that would have been served in the days that the original fort was in use. The Davidson’s Fort Colonial Christmas will take place on December 6, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., following the Old Fort Christmas Parade.
