Description:
The excitement is brewing for residents and throughout the community, as Woodstock, NY readies for the 15th Woodstock Film Festival. This annual event, with the motto “Fiercely Independent” reflects Woodstock’s long tradition of embracing art in all media. The Film Fest is an amazing compilation of both long and short films – documentaries, features, animation – and no topic, no format is off limits here. From Oct. 15-19 viewers will have the opportunity to see films showcased in a variety of forums – from the town’s beloved Upstate Films (a one-screen venue) to the nostalgic Rosendale Theater and other sites. Participants can hear panelists talk about challenges of the trade, attend live concerts from a variety of musicians and, since, it’s a festival, attend parties.
Yes, Hollywood stars meander down tiny Tinker Street and grab coffee and chat with folks, but the real magic of the festival is found in darkened rooms, as thoughts and ideas come to life on the screen.
Kicking it all off on Oct. 15 will be a night of optimism with the world premiere of “East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem” which documents the creation of David Broza’s album (produced by Woodstock resident Steve Earle). The album was made in a Palestinian studio and features Israeli, Palestinian and American musicians.
