You think you have seen orchids, you have not seen ORCHIDS. Known as the largest orchid show in Hawaii, the Hilo Orchid Society will be hosting the 2014 Symphony of Orchids, beginning Friday August 1. The Big Island of Hawaii is known for orchid growing and our dozens of top orchid growers provide these lovely flowers year round not only to us here in Hawaii, but world wide through florists.
The opening day is the day to go although this event is held for 3 days. There are not only spectacular displays, but demonstrations, vendors selling, silent auction as well as live music, and food.
If you don’t think you can grow, just attend one of the demonstrations, here in Hawaii, orchids are so easy to grow – who would have thought?
These growers, the incredible number of varieties, the colors, and yes some are very fragrant. My favorite is the chocolate orchid!
If you are in or around Hilo town, heck if you’re on Island period, don’t miss this!
From the Author: This event is held at the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium in downtown Hilo. I always attend the first day, Aug. 1, because so many of the vendors are selling. This is when you will get the widest selection.
