Single Leaf Winery is part of one of the oldest traditions in California wine history: The Fair Play Festival. The Fair Play Festival started more than 30 years ago as a friendly offer of thanks to the community. The three original wineries in Fair Play wanted to thank all their neighbors for putting up with the traffic and inconvenience the wineries have made in the Fair Play neighborhood. The wineries opened their doors with elaborate foodies, music and welcomed their neighbors. The neighbors brought wine glasses, coffee mugs and even mason jars for their wine. Things evolved over the years; there are six of the more than 30 wineries of Fair Play hosting this year’s Festival in Fair Play.
Single Leaf Winery has participated with all the Festivals in Fair Play since they opened in 1992. Pam and Scott Miller, owners and Scott the winemaker, have made these events fun for all. Rock & Roll music will be played throughout. You can count on hearing some ZZ Top at least once while you are there. Scott loves the group. Pam is famous for her foods served at Single Leaf. During this weekend’s festival she will be serving a Mexican buffet with tomatilla sauce, corn salad, corn chowder, and tacos; if you want to make it a salad, go for it.
For a great time and to taste some wonderful, full bodied, robust Zinfandel, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Chardonnay, among other great wines, scoot on over to Single Leaf Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
From the Author: Lucinda & I were the first people to be served in their tasting room. We were in the throes of finding our property to build Lucinda's Country Inn and their first Saturday we were in Fair Play. We drove to the tasting area in the corner of their barrel room and Scott hollered at us from the tractor down in the vineyard. A couple of minutes later he approached pounding the dirt & junk off his clothes. We had a great time. Since that day we have become good friends with Pam and Scott. For many of their winery events we have worked together so some our guests will attend their functions. Its been a great relationship. Scott hasn't always been a great white wine maker. The last few years he has gotten it down to a "T" tough. Great stuff. His Zins have always been great. In fact, when you are there have Scott tell you the true story of ZINMAN.
