Description:
Woodstock is such an amazing artistic venue. Music, sculpture, art, and yes, even that ol’ die-hard photography, is embraced here in our lovely community nestled in the Catskill Mountains. Although the creative juices of residents and visiting artists flow all year long, summer always seems to offer a special opportunity for both residents and visitors alike.
This summer the innovative Center for Photography at Woodstock is expanding its reach with new opportunities for visitors to get exposed (sorry, couldn’t pass on the pun!) to this amazing medium. During the summer months it is hosting evening lectures with some of the most famous and influential photographers working in the field. These intimate gatherings, many on a Saturday night, often seem more like visiting with friends rather than attending an event with world-renown artists. This opportunity to hear directly from the artists should not be missed and is just a small sampling of the big-city culture that finds sanctuary in the heart of Woodstock, here in the Hudson Valley. Scheduled guest lecturers include:
Documentarians Vincent Cianni and Susan Hartman who have followed people for years, documenting their lives in both beautiful and tragic moments; photojournalist Ron Haviv who has brought the anguish of war off the battlefield and into our homes through his passionate work and Mary Ellen Mark whose photo essays are known for capturing cultural moments in life and searing them into our mindset, whether its her work for The New York Times or Rolling Stone.
In addition photographic artists, technicians and educators will also share their expertise during various lectures this summer. And, because these offerings are part of longer intensive weekend workshops, costs are kept to a minimum.
The Center’s goal is to educate, encourage, inform and inspire photographers and audiences of all ages . Admission to each lecture is only $5 for members or $7 for non-members.
