Description:

17 years ago, out of the bowls of the soil in Fair Play came the birth of Oakstone Winery. Hills were shaped and vines planted, a D3 caterpillar graded the shape for a building to be built. Footings set and timber framed so a resemblance of what was to be built emerged. Tile was strewn around the floor and put in their proper place with thinset and grout.  The masters’ hands were steadily going about the creation of Oakstone Winery. When finally the building was done, the real job was just developing in the right mixture of anticipation and excitement. That job was the wines of Oakstone. For some wines they had been laying in wait for several years. For other wines their quick fix of fermentation and aging, with just the right attention needed for white wine was just around the corner for completion. The stage had been set and the doors to the TASTING ROOM thrown open to the public. Fair Play has never been the same. The creation of Oakstone Winery by John and Susan Smith has survived many years of tumultuous adventures, including a devastating fire.  However unfortunate as the devastating fire was, they can now enjoy their retirement and grandchildren by passing the baton onto new owners, Steve & Liz Ryan.

The excellent wines of Oakstone are legendary. Many wines have won many awards from across the State. You are in luck if you are reading this, because you have the chance to enjoy those great wines during the 17th Oakstone Winery Anniversary Celebration Saturday and Sunday, March 15th & 16th from 11-5pm.

From the Author: Looking at the Tips & Deals picture you'll see a sign for Oakstone 2.0. At this site is the new Oakstone risen from the ashes as a new, better, more enriched and energetic Oakstone, named Oakstone 2.0. That is because about two years ago Oakstone burned to the ground losing absolutely everything. I believe there are two barrel bottoms hanging on the tasting room wall from the remains of the fire. Steve & Liz Ryan have done it right, down to having all the friends of Oakstone 1.0 & 2.0 sign the temporary bar and now have those signed planks hanging on the wall as a show of their gratitude and friendship.
